A week for provincial climate action during the Council of the Federation as Canada's Premiers discuss climate, energy, and trade.
Regina (31 July 2009) - Progressive groups, including the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE), are gearing up for a "Climate showdown in Regina" coinciding with the summer meeting of Canada's premiers and territorial leaders.
The talks on climate, energy and trade issues are scheduled Aug. 5-7 in the Saskatchewan capital. Some of the key groups involved include the Council of Canadians, Greenpeace and the Sierra Club of Canada.
The following events are planned to bring home the importance of environmental issues to the provincial and territorial leaders:
Tuesday, Aug. 4
7 p.m. - Cinema Poltico featuring "Downstream", "You, Me & The SPP", & "King's North" @ Knox Metropolitan United Church (2340 Victoria Avenue).
Wednesday, Aug. 5
12 noon - Pedal for the Planet Lobby Loop Launch @ the Saskatchewan Legislature (123 Legislative Building, 2405 Legislative Drive).
7 p.m. - People's Teach-In: Climate, Energy, Trade Panels @ Knox Metropolitan United Church (2340 Victoria Avenue).
Thursday, Aug. 6
12 noon - Climate Justice Rally @ the Saskatchewan Legislature (123 Legislative Building, 2405 Legislative Drive).
7 p.m. - Our Power Is Renewable Potluck & Social @ the Cathedral Neighbourhood Centre (2900 13th Avenue).
