Edmonton, Regina and Saskatoon proclaim Nov. 6 Community Social Service Workers Appreciation Day
Ottawa (27 Oct. 2009) - The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has made a commitment to raise the profile of Community Social Service (CSS) workers.
At an April 2007 conference and during the National Union’s June 2007 convention, a pledge was made to launch a national appreciation day to honour the work of these vital employees.
In this the second year of marking the occasion, NUPGE is reaching out to communities and urging them to formally recognize Nov. 6 a day honoring all those who work in the sector.
So far there has been a terrific response from cities and towns across Canada. In addition to the western cities, many communities in Ontario have issued proclamations.
On the east coast, Fredericton and Halifax have both issued proclamations while Charlottetown and Moncton have endorsed the day and acknowledged the indispensable contributions of these workers.
Below you will find links to official letters and proclamations.
