Child care campaign making final push to Oct. 14 election

'Time to vote for the party you trust most to deliver a universal, community-based child care system.'

Ottawa (8 Oct. 2008) - The Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada (CCAAC) is urging all of its members -- and concerned voters across the country -- to intensify lobbying efforts during the final days of the Oct. 14 federal election campaign.

The message must be carried to party leaders and to candidates in every political constituency across the country, the association says.

1. Stand up and speak out: Investing in a publicly funded child care system is one of the best economic decisions a government can make. It is good economics. The evidence is clear and summarized in this report on the Code Blue for Child Care site: Strong Economy Needs Good Child Care: Canada Can't Work Without It.

2. Get virtual: This Code Blue website section, Let's Get Virtual, includes links to on-line election-related sites, blogs and Facebook groups. Use these valuable links on the internet to spread the message between now and election day. Tell your child care story. Spread the word that a taxable allowance of $100 a month has not provided parents with more choice. If other countries can do it, so can Canada.

3. Decorate: Download this poster - Put child care within reach this federal election - and post it every window you can. And be sure to register to vote.

"Child care is within reach," Code Blue says. "The NDP, Liberal and Green parties are promising they will build a universal child care system. The Conservatives are not. It’s time to vote for the party you trust most to deliver a universal, community-based child care system."
