CBC and Globe and Mail focus on working conditions in B.C. prison that led to PTSD

Barry Rhodes' story reflects how B.C. Corrections failed to address working conditions that led to his post-traumatic stress disorder. 

Vancouver (23 Sept. 2014) — Recently, CBC radio and television and the Globe and Mail newspaper reported the troubling story of Barry Rhodes. Rhodes was a Correctional Officer at Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre and a former member of the B.C. Government and Service Employees Union (BCGEU/NUPGE).

Suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Rhodes filed a successful Workers’ Compensation claim with the assistance of the BCGEU. Rhodes is now taking his complaint to the BC Human Rights Tribunal, alleging that B.C. Corrections systematically failed to address the working conditions that led to his PTSD.
