Expanding the Canada Pension Plan and Québec Pension Plans – everyone’s pension plan - will make sure that all workers in Canada can count on a decent pension in retirement. Sign the petition today!
Ottawa (16 Dec. 2013) – Across the country, the debate over public pensions is raging. All provincial and territorial governments are on record supporting an expanded Canada Pension Plan (CPP). These positions stand in stark contrast to the position of the federal government. According to the federal Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty, he believes the Canadian economy is too delicate to make such an investment.
Every worker in Canada belongs to the CPP/QPP. The Canada and Quebec Pension Plans are safe, fully-portable, and provide predictable, secure, inflation-protected benefits for life, at very low cost. Expanding the CPP/QPP – everyone’s pension plan - will make sure that all workers in Canada can count on a decent pension in retirement.
NUPGE and Components urge Canadians to tell their MP to support an expanded CPP
The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) and its provincial Components disagree, as does the rest of the Canadian labour movement.
Across the country, NUPGE members will be engaging in a petition campaign spearheaded by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) to put pressure on the federal Members of Parliament to support an increase in the CPP.
You can help secure decent retirement income for all Canadians:
- spread the word about the petition campaign (www.pensionfairness.ca) through your email or other social media networks (Facebook, Twitter)
- organize a petition drive in your workplace or community
- talk about why CPP increases are needed and encourage others to sign the petition
- use the QRL to circulate the petition online
The best way to help today’s workers save enough money for tomorrow is by increasing what everybody gets from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) as a share of their total retirement income. Expanding the CPP is about preparing for the future, and leaving behind a better system for our kids.
Join thousands of Canadians who support an increase in pension benefits under the Canada and Quebec Pension Plans and implement a fully funded plan to phase in such an increase without delay.
