Workers prepare to strike at Canadian Blood Services in Manitoba.
Winnipeg (08 May 2013) – On May 6, members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) employed by Canadian Blood Services voted down a tentative agreement that was reached through conciliation on April 11.
Members in strike position
The rejection of this offer puts the members in a strike position, since they had previously voted in favour of a strike mandate in February.
At this time, no strike date has been set, but members can check the union website for updates.
Difficult decision to strike
“The decision to go on strike is a difficult one. And this one is compounded by the nature of the work these members do - saving lives daily. But the members feel they have no other option,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky.
