BCGEU's Shop Public campaign gets new look

Campaign will help inform customers of the new changes to hours and operations in B.C. Liquor Stores.

Vancouver (14 May 2015) — The B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) Shop Public campaign has a new look. It's on the BCGEU website and in newspaper ads running in Vancouver and Victoria this week.

BCGEU/NUPGE campaign reminds the public of important changes to B.C. Liquor stores

As the holiday weekend approaches, BCGEU/NUPGE is also running radio ads around the province reminding British Columbians of the changes at B.C. Liquor Stores. The BCGEU/NUPGE also produced a short animated video that will be used for the first time this weekend at the Cloverdale Rodeo.

The BCGEU/NUPGE wants to make sure everyone knows that B.C. Liquor Stores are open Sundays, holidays and extended hours, and that more and more stores are now selling refrigerated products.

These are important changes to B.C. Liquor Store retailing. They build on the tradition of better pricing, better selection and social responsibility of our public stores. These changes are also crucial to supporting the jobs of the BCGEU/NUPGE members who work in them. Given a choice, British Columbians prefer to shop at public liquor stores.

BCGEU members in the stores are being encouraged to share information about the changes with customers. To help alert customers, employees will be wearing buttons and will be distributing bag-stuffers to customers. As the news about the changes spreads, it is expected that Sunday and holiday shopping will increase steadily.
