Problems with new employers on matters such as wages and benefits as well as disability issues, maternity leave and other leave issues.
Vancouver (28 May 2010) - The B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) is working to resolve wage, benefit and other problems associated with the re-tendering of home support contracts in the Lower Mainland.
"BCGEU officers and staff have been meeting with the four employers who will be providing home support services to seniors in the Lower Mainland," the union says in an update to members.
BCGEU says the employers are providing information about their plans and the union is assisting members encountering problems with wages, health and welfare benefits, long-term disability, maternity leave and other leave issues.
Displaced members are being encouraged to contact employers who have taken over home support services in their area.
BCGEU says information will be posted on its website as it becomes available. Special phone lines have also been established to field questions on the transfer of services. Members can call 604-882-6617 or 604-882-6618.
