Vancouver (30 July 2015) — The President of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) Stephanie Smith met on July 28 with Premier Christy Clark in Vancouver.
This was the second meeting with Premier Clark since Smith was elected BCGEU President in May 2014. BCGEU/NUPGE has been meeting with provincial cabinet ministers and other senior representatives, in addition to the Premier.
Second meeting with Premier keeps lines of communication open
The conversation touched on concrete issues such as joint labour-management committees, staffing issues in provincial wildfire management, the modernization of liquor distribution and sales, and the erosion of public service staffing levels.
"Our members keep this province running in so many ways," said Smith after the meeting. "It's important to keep the lines of communication with government open and productive to ensure our voices are taken into consideration."
