BCGEU prepares to celebrate the work of administrative professionals

This is the day we recognize the valuable and vital service members of the union's Administrative Services Component provide to British Columbians and their communities.

Vancouver (15 April 2013) – In British Columbia, members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) are preparing to celebrate and acknowledge the important role administrative services workers play. This year Administrative Services Recognition Day in B.C. falls on April 24.

This is the day we recognize the valuable and vital service members of the union's Administrative Services Component provide to British Columbians and their communities.

BCGEU/NUPGE members in administrative services are scattered around the province. In addition to government, they work for a variety of private employers with government contracts.

The last year has been a challenge for the Administrative Services Component. Members went through an extremely tough round of bargaining where they picket line for the first time in more than two decades. The current government’s hiring freeze coupled with the implementation of new systems is impacting administrative service providers more than ever. 

In preparation for the next round of bargaining, members will be surveyed to set the prioririties. To start this process, local executive members will be visiting worksites in the days around Administrative Services Recognition Day. This year won’t be about cakes, balloons or flowers. This year is about ACTION. Members are encourage to share their issues and identify what is needed from the employer and from the provincial government.
