BCGEU looks to members for input on core services review

The BCGEU/NUPGE is preparing a detailed submission for the minister that will include concrete ideas to increase the efficiency of the delivery of government services, generate more provincial revenue, create more productive workplaces for members and deliver value to British Columbians.

Vancouver (18 Oct. 2013) - The B.C. government is currently conducting a review of government services lead by Bill Bennett, Minister Responsible for Core Review.

Minister says government not looking to downsize public service but improve it

In a meeting with Darryl Walker, President of the B.C. Government and Services Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE), the minister reiterated that the core review process is not designed to reduce the size of provincial public service which he acknowledges is already the leanest in Canada.

He also commended the hard work and commitment of public services workers. Just as important, he expressed a willingness to tap into the expertise of our members and listen to their ideas as he conducts his review. The minister’s mandate includes:

looking for duplication and overlap between ministries, and
identifying programs that can be restructured to reduce costs and improve outcomes for the public.
