Public liquor stores offer better selection and prices as much as 35% per cent lower than private stores.
Vancouver (27 July 2009) - The B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) is reminding B.C. residents to choose public liquor stores when stocking up on wine, beer and spirits for the holiday weekend.
Liquor store employees, who are represented by BCGEU, are reminding shoppers that publicly owned stores offer better selection and prices up to 35% lower than private stores.
“Shop Public” is the pitch in union radio advertisements running from July 28 to Aug. 1 in many communities across the province.
The campaign is sponsored by BCGEU members employed in the more than 200 publicly-owned liquor stores and in the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) warehouse facilities in Vancouver and Kamloops.
"Show your support for your fellow union members. Shop public this summer, because where you shop does make a difference," the union says.
"There's a larger selection at public stores," the ads say, and "prices are up to 35 per cent cheaper." And of course, "profits from public stores are returned to your community to build schools and hospitals."
The ads encourage people to drink responsibly. To hear the message click on the links below.
