More government worksites struck to bring pressure on government to negotiate a new collective agreement.
Vancouver (17 Aug. 2012) - B.C. government workers in Prince George, Cranbrook, Nelson, Dawson Creek and Burns Lake will strike on Monday, August 20, the B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) announced today.
The union has issued a strike notice to the B.C. Labour Relations Board.
The strike will affect the following worksites:
Prince George: Plaza 400; 1011 – 4th Avenue, V2L 1R4
1044 Fifth Avenue, V2L 5G4
265 workers - Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations and Ministry of Transportation
Cranbrook: 1902 Theatre Road, V1C 7G1
50 members - FrontCounter BC, Ministry of Forests
Nelson: 1907 Ridgewood Dr., V1L 6K1
50 members - Ministry of Forests
Dawson Creek: 9000 – 17th Street, V1G 4A4
50 members - Ministry of Forests
Burns Lake: 185 Yellowhead Hwy., V0J 1E0
46 members - Ministry of Forests
This is the third BCGEU/NUPGE job action this summer in support of the union’s proposals to achieve a new collective agreement with the provincial government.
On July 3, BCGEU/NUPGE members picketed three Liquor Distribution Branch sites in Vancouver, Victoria and Kamloops. On August 7, the union took strike action at Ministry of Forests, Lands & Natural Resource Operations and Ministry of Labour, Agriculture, Health and Environment in Surrey, Kelowna, Campbell River and 100 Mile House.
