Employer interested in resolving issues raised by workers in the 2011/12 Employee Engagement Survey; BCGEU/NUPGE looking for dates for discussions.
Vancouver (10 July 2012) - Over 400 B.C. Government and Service Employees Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) members employed by Community Living B.C. (CLBC) resumed bargaining last week to renew the collective agreement with the employer.
The bargaining committee met with the employer on April 19 to exchange initial proposals and resumed bargaining to table all proposals including monetary issues and wages.
The packages of proposals exchanged are modest in number and some progress has been made. On monetary issues however, there is some way to go before the bargaining committee is prepared to recommend a package for ratification.
In addition to monetary matters however, issues such as stability for the organization, workload, service requirements and training are all key elements which need to be addressed. The committee has spent time reviewing with the employer the 2011/12 Employee Engagement Survey which documents the significant challenges still facing the organization.
The employer has indicated a desire to find ways to address the issues which the survey identified. To this end, the bargaining committee will meet directly with the interim CLBC CEO to discuss the employer's proposal to undertake a joint process of workforce planning and analysis. In an environment where government is focused on “cooperative gains,” the union believes it is worthwhile to explore processes that may both improve service delivery at CLBC and address workload and other key BCGEU/NUPGE member's concerns.
Once a date has been confirmed for these discussions, future bargaiing sessions will be schediled.
