"We may be retired but we are huge in voter numbers so we are pleased to see how the efforts of NUPGE to reach out have been so successful. Grey power may not rule, but it sure does have an impact." Dave and Bonnie Scott, winners.
Ottawa (5 April 2011) - The All Together Now! campaign's "Send a letter to Harper" is still going strong! And now that a federal election is underway, it's more important than ever to get your letters in and voices heard on the issues of tax fairness and quality public services.
Most recently, new winners of the $100 draw were chosen: Joseph O'Connell and a team of writers, Dave and Bonnie Scott.
Joe works for the department of transportation in Deer Lake, Newfoundland. As a member of NAPE/NUPGE Local 1305, he serves as the shop steward for the maintenance and operations department at the Deer Lake depot. While attending a shop steward seminar in Corner Brook this February, he heard about the All Together Now! campaign. Joe checked out the website and wrote a letter to Harper.
Dave and Bonnie Scott have worked their entire careers in the public service. They have both been life-long political and union activists. Dave was on the staff of the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF), a member of the Communication Energy and Paperworkers' Union (CEP Local 464) and local president the Kamloops Thompson District Teachers' Association (BCTF).
Word of mouth brought them to the All Together Now! website and the letter writing campaign. Dave says, "We may be retired but we are huge in voter numbers so we are pleased to see how the efforts of NUPGE to reach out have been so successful."
"Grey power may not rule, but it sure does have an impact," says Bonnie.
Letters will go to the former-Prime Minister Steven Harper and the former-finance minister as well as to to the premier and finance minister specific to your province. Each level of government has a role to play in protecting public services, so keep those letters coming.
The next draw is Friday, April 8.
