All out for education on November 2!

"Obstacles don't end on campus. It is more difficult to find good paying, steady jobs to keep up with these rising costs and with their rising debt. The federal government has an obligation to ensure our students have a solid future. It needs to take action now."  — Elisabeth Ballermann, NUPGE Secretary-Treasurer

Ottawa (28 Oct. 2016) — On November 2, students and supporters of public education will be rallying across the country to garner attention for universal access to post secondary education.

Students and supporters go all out for education justice

"On behalf of our 370,000 members across the country, we are a proud supporter of the national day of action," said Elisabeth Ballermann, Secretary-Treasurer of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE). "We echo the belief that education is a core part of a just and equitable society."

"Education is the great equalizer. As part of our public services, it needs to be accessible to all those who want and need it," said Ballermann.

"Rising costs of tuition fees, housing, books, and food is making it more and more difficult for people to attend post secondary studies," Ballermann continued. "But the obstacles don't end on campus. It is more difficult to find good-paying, steady jobs to keep up with these rising costs and with their rising debt. The federal government has an obligation to ensure our students have a solid future. It needs to take action now."

NUPGE encourages members to join day of action

"We encourage our members across the country to find an event in their community on November 2 and show support and commitment to affordable education," said Ballermann.
