'Despite arduous bargaining conditions imposed by SAHO, the unions managed to attain a four-year deal.'
Regina (16 Aug. 2010) - Unions representing more than 25,000 health care workers in Saskatchewan have a tentative agreement new contract - a four-year-deal retroactive to April 1, 2008.
The agreement affects members of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union (SGEU/NUPGE), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU West).
The employees work in four different health care regions. They negotiated with the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO), the agency that represents provincial health authorities.
"Despite arduous bargaining conditions imposed by SAHO, the unions managed to attain a four-year deal," union leaders said in a release.
The union members are employed in a wide range of jobs in the health field. They include special care aides, licensed practical nurses, food services workers, laundry workers, maintenance employees, clerical staff, medical technologists and technicians.
