Joan Jessome, President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE), who has spearheaded the creation and continued development of the NSGEU Bully-Free Workplaces Program, will present on June 12 at 9:30 a.m. about labour’s role in creating bully-free workplaces.
Halifax (11 June 2014) — Employers, health and safety representatives, labour representatives, and human resources specialists from near and far will be just some of the people attending the first International Bully-Free Workplaces Conference, which opens on June 11. Participants will be learning more about the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, what they can do to stop bullying, and about programs that are available to assist them.
First international anti-bullying conference held in Halifax
On June 11 at 9:30 a.m., participants will hear from Mary Ann Baynton, a member of the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s expert panel, and the co-chair of the Technical Committee on the National Standard of Canada on Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
At 1 p.m. Valerie Cade, author of the bestselling book Bully Free at Work: What You Can Do To Stop Workplace Bullying Now will present at the conference.

Joan Jessome, President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE), who has spearheaded the creation and continued development of the NSGEU Bully-Free Workplaces Program, will present on June 12 at 9:30 a.m. about labour’s role in creating bully-free workplaces. On June 13, at 9:30 a.m., Helge Hoel, a professor in Organizational Behaviour, and a Director of the University of Manchester Fairness at Work Research Centre (FairWRC), will present his keynote address.
There are many other presenters and break-out sessions throughout the conference.
