Campaign reminds drivers about safe driving practices and to slow down when approaching designated work sites.
Winnipeg (20 May 2015) — The 10th annual SAFE Roads campaign, a joint initiative targeted to educate motorists across Manitoba, has kicked off, reminding drivers to slow down when driving past construction projects, road maintenance workers and emergency responders.
"This is my workplace. Slow down."
SAFE Roads Committee members are joining forces with Minister Erna Braun, Minister Steve Ashton, Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman, Chief Operating Officer of SAFE Work Manitoba Jamie Hall and Manitoba Hydro Vice President Bryan Luce to raise awareness of safe driving practices and to slow down when approaching designated work sites.
The SAFE Roads campaign includes radio, billboard and transit bus ads urging speeding motorists to slow down and raise awareness of Manitoba’s roads as a workplace. The ads feature the message,"This is my workplace. Slow down."
Research shows that the SAFE Roads campaign works
"Our research shows that 84 per cent of people who are aware of the SAFE Roads campaign become more considerate, empathetic and understanding of workers and their designated work zones," said Chris Lorenc, President of the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) and chair of the SAFE Roads Committee.
