100 conversations in 100 days: New Saskatchewan Champions 4 Change set goal

"By sharing this information, and getting more people involved in the campaign, people see there are solutions. When we work strategically together, we can make a difference." - Bob Bymoen, SGEU President.

Regina (27 Jan. 2014) – The ranks for the All Together Now! campaign's Champions 4 Change keeps growing.

Organizing for tax fairness, good jobs, labour rights and public services in Saskatchewan

On January 21 in Regina, 30 members and staff of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE) took part in a day-long training session to learn and develop skills to reach out to their co-workers, friends and family about the issue of income inequality.

They spent the day talking about, and understanding how, the lack of tax fairness, the absence of a job strategy that produces good jobs, the attack and labour rights and the cuts to public serviceS create the conditions to allow income inequality grow.

Since the beginning of the All Together Now! campaign in 2010, it has been based on starting conversations about these important issues. Supporters across the country have held thousands of conversations with people at work, friends and family around the dinner table and even strangers at public events.

"People are living with income inequality every day. They know what it looks like first-hand," says Bob Bymoen, SGEU President. "But it's not always clear, why it's happening, how all these things are connected. We're excited to see our members engage in these conversations with confidence and be able to help others connect the dots.

"By sharing this information, and getting more people involved in the campaign, people see there are solutions. When we work strategically together, we can make a difference," he continued.

Before the participants left the training session, each person committed to reaching a goal: 100 conversations in 100 days.

Bymoen said, "It's an impressive goal but we know they can do it!"
